G7 financial leaders promised to strengthen cooperation against cybercrime on Saturday and did not gain a competitive advantage at the exchange rate, but the wording of the trade in their communiqué remains cautious.
The finance ministers of the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom and the central bank president met in Bari, Italy to discuss the global economy, fight against terrorism, cybersecurity and tax burdens.
The final communique said the G7 will use all policy tools - financial instruments, structural tools and monetary instruments - to boost economic growth.
G7 financial leaders will strengthen cooperation to combat cyber threats, such as Friday's global cyber attacks. The attack led to more than 100 countries, hundreds of thousands of computers infected with the virus.
The communique said that fiscal policy in helping to create employment, but also to maintain public debt in a sustainable path; and monetary policy should promote economic activities but not excessive inflation.
"We reiterate that the G7 countries are currently determined by the market exchange rate and are committed to close communication with the currency markets," the communique said.
"We reaffirm that our fiscal and monetary policies, as before, will continue to use domestic tools to achieve our respective domestic policy objectives, not to gain a competitive advantage in terms of exchange rates," the bulletin said, emphasizing the importance of curbing competitive devaluation Sex.
But unlike the 2016 G7 National Convention bulletin, the meeting did not endorse free trade, nor did it propose against trade protectionism, reflecting pressure from the United States. US President Trump previously hinted at his skepticism about free trade agreements.
