The Bank of Australia President John Lowy said on Wednesday that the possibility of "China's problems" was one of the biggest economic risks faced by Australia and mentioned the increasing scale of China's debt.
Official figures show that Australia now exports more to China than any other country, and exports to China more than the United States and the United Kingdom combined.
"China's stable and sound financial system is clearly in the interests of Australia," Lowe said in his speech to prepare for the Sydney speech.
"The biggest single risk of China's economy may lie in the financial sector and the huge increase in debt over the past ten years," he said.
