US President Trump cancelled a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jeong-eun, which could bring Washington and Pyongyang back to the crisis model, but both sides may be beware of the escalation of the situation to war worries as last year.
Analysts say the new rhetoric of a new verbal war has made the United States and DPRK away from the negotiating table, and there is a growing concern that these threats may be put into action, such as the North Korean retest of short range missiles or increased cyber attacks, as well as the US strengthening sanctions or deploying new military equipment.
But considering that Trump is still open to diplomacy, North Korea seems to still expect to benefit from its relationship with South Korea, and the common desire to avoid out of control may be bound, at least to mitigate such actions.
Even so, Trump's remarks on Thursday sounded very aggressive. He warned Kim Jeong-eun that the United States had a better nuclear power, which reminded him of his claim that his nuclear button was "much worse" than Kim Jeong-eun last year.
Earlier that day, North Korea warned that it was ready to launch a nuclear showdown with the United States. US officials say this is a major reason for Trump's decision to cancel the summit.
