Iran’s oil minister, Shankangani, told Iran’s Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana on Wednesday that following the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement, France’s Total (TOTF.PA) has had two months to seek immunity from U.S. sanctions.
Shangani said that if Total fails to obtain an exemption, Iran will introduce China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to replace Total's position in the South Pass Natural Gas Project.
Shangani also stated on state television that if an agreement with Europe is reached, it will inspire potential buyers of other Iranian oil.
“Europe now buys only one-third of Iranian oil, but reaching an agreement with Europe is very important for securing our sales and securing ships for the transportation of oil. Other buyers will also be motivated,” he said. .
