Two Philippine security officials told the Associated Press on Tuesday that the Philippines had used tugboats to haul the Del Pilar patrol ship from the shoals of the Half Moon Reef by midnight.
The two Philippine officials also told the Associated Press anonymously that Philippine Navy frigates were grounded in the shoal after an accident, Philippine Defense Ministry officials notified Chinese officials to avoid any misunderstanding.
The Philippine Star newspaper previously reported that the Philippine presidential palace said the action on the Del Pilar would not cause tension with China. "Please don't speculate," Philippine President Harry Rock said of doubts about whether China will stop the Philippines.
