China's foreign ministry on Thursday strongly urged Britain to stop such provocations immediately so as not to damage the overall situation of bilateral relations and regional peace and stability, and China will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard national sovereignty and security, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a reply to Reuters in response to British warships entering the territorial waters of the Xisha Islands without the permission of the Chinese government.
On August 31, the British dock landing ship, the Son of Sea God, entered the territorial waters of the Xisha Islands of China without the permission of the Chinese government. The Chinese Navy verified, identified and warned the British ships to leave.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded that Paracel Islands is China's inherent territory. In May 1996, the Chinese Government delimited the territorial waters of the Xisha Islands in accordance with the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Territorial Seas and Adjacent Areas. The actions of British ships violate Chinese laws and relevant international laws and infringe upon China's sovereignty. China firmly opposes this, and put forward solemn representations to the British side, expressing strong dissatisfaction.
