Russia's energy minister said Wednesday that China and Russia are close to reaching an agreement to supply China with natural gas through a new route.
In order to control pollution, China is promoting the use of natural gas instead of coal for heating in enterprises and families.

"Yesterday, during a meeting with Chairman Xi Jinping, he set out the task of reaching an agreement on the supply of natural gas to China through the western route in the near future," Russian Energy Minister Nowak said at a news conference.
"All technical conditions have been agreed," he said. Over the past few years, negotiations on gas supply to China through the West have been intermittent.
Russian President Putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Vladivostok on Tuesday.
