Japan and the United States will hold a second round of trade talks in New York on September 24, Japan's economic regeneration minister, Maki Minchong, said Friday.
Mao Mu Min-chong and U.S. Trade Representative Letschizer will meet after August's talks failed to narrow the gap on whether to start bilateral free trade agreement negotiations.
"Based on the consensus we have reached in the first round of talks, we will seek a win-win outcome for both countries," Mao said at a press conference after the regular cabinet meeting.
Asked if the meeting with Letschizer might force Japan and the United States to enter into bilateral free trade agreements, Maki said: "I don't think this will happen."
