Global liquidity tightening could also push up borrowing costs, hitting corporate activity, and capital outflows are a risk.
In its updated report on Asia's development outlook, the ADB maintained its forecast of 6.0% growth in the region by 2018, but cut its forecast for 2009 from 5.9% to 5.8%.
"The downside risks to the economic outlook are strengthening," said Sawada Yasuko, chief economist at ADB. He refers to the potential impact of Sino-US trade tensions on regional supply chains and the risk of sudden capital outflows if the Federal Reserve (Federal Reserve / FED) raises interest rates more quickly.
The ADB's forecast of 5.8% growth in the region for 2019 will be the lowest since the 4.9% increase in 2001. There are 45 countries in the Asia Pacific region.
The United States and China began a new round of tariffs on Monday, and there was no sign of a retreat in the growing trade dispute that is expected to hit global economic growth.
The ADB said China's economy is expected to grow by 6.3% in 2019, slightly below the 6.4% forecast in July and 6.6% in 2018. The forecast for 2018 is unchanged from the previous estimate.
