Former British Foreign Secretary Johnson said Britain must face the bullying of the European Union and urged a "super Canada" trade agreement. This added pressure to British Prime Minister Teresa May's European agenda.
In a column published Monday in the Daily Telegraph, Johnson wrote that the exit negotiations had entered a "crisis moment" and that Teresa May should change her plans. Johnson is a symbolic figure of Britain's Euro retreat movement.
It was less than six months before Britain withdrew from the EU, and the latest round of talks with the EU failed to reach an agreement on the terms of its withdrawal. Negotiators stopped talks just days before the EU summit.
Johnson is the latest critic who strongly urged Teresa May to reconsider the European plan. He is the most promising replacement for Teresa May.
"Always comes to the moment when you have to face bullying. Britain has been bullied by the European Union for more than two years, and it is time to rebel against it, "he wrote.
