U.S. President Trump said on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia performed "the worst cover-up in history" in the killing of Jamal Khashoggi this month, and the United States vowed to revoke visas for some of the people believed to be involved.
Hours before Trump's remarks, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said he could not accept Saudi Arabia's blame for Kashuji's death on agents'brutality. El called on Saudi Arabia to conduct a thorough investigation to reveal the truth behind the incident. Kashuji's assassination at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 sparked global anger and tensions between the United States and Saudi Arabia.
Asked by reporters at the Oval Office how the killing of Kashuji happened, Trump said: "They had bad ideas, awkward execution and the worst cover-up in history."
Trump also said that Saudi Arabia's approach to the Kashuji incident is nothing good, a failure, after the cover-up should not have happened. He also said that when he spoke with the Saudi prince, the latter strongly denied that it was related to Kasuji's murder.
Kashuji is a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has the right of abode in the United States and is a Washington Post columnist.
