Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, has warned dissenters within the Conservative Party that if the British government fails to reach a secession agreement, he will have to quickly reverse plans to loosen fiscal austerity for nearly a decade.
Hammond will unveil his annual budget on Monday, and he will be able to tell voters that "their hard work has paid off" as long as Britain can make a steady exit within five months.
Hammond's insistence that Britain should remain in close contact with the European Union after its withdrawal has angered many in the Conservative Party, and Prime Minister Teresa May has so far failed to resolve intra-Party differences.
Many investors and business people are worried that Britain's chances of leaving Europe without agreement are increasing.
Hammond said he believed the authorities in London and Brussels would resolve their differences, but "if we don't reach an agreement, we need to take a different approach to the future of the British economy."

"We're going to have to think about another strategy, and frankly we're going to need a new budget with different strategies for the future," Hammond told Sky News on Sunday.
Most economic analysts say the economy will suffer if Britain does not have an agreement to return to Europe.
Hammond said Sunday that one of the biggest increases in his budget was announced four months ago when Prime Minister Teresa May said more money would be devoted to health care.
On Monday, Hammond will announce other plans, including increased spending on road construction to ease traffic congestion and a tax cut for small retailers to help them cope with competition from online retailers.
He hinted on Sunday that funds would be provided to ease the impact of the adjustment of the UK welfare system.
