U.S. President Trump said he thought there would be a "perfect deal" with China on trade issues, but warned there would be huge new tariffs pending if no deal could be reached.
"I think we're going to have a great deal with China, and it has to be a great deal because they've emptied our country," Trump said Monday on The Ingraham Angle on Fox News.
Trump said in an interview that he was willing to sign an agreement immediately, but China is not ready yet. He did not elaborate on the description.
Bloomberg News on Monday quoted unnamed sources as saying the United States is prepared to declare tariffs on all other imports from China by early December if U.S. President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping fail to ease the trade war next month.
The United States has imposed tariffs on $250 billion of Chinese products and China has imposed retaliatory tariffs on $110 billion of American products.
"If I fail to reach an agreement, I will also levy taxes on the $267 billion product," Trump said.
Trump has long threatened that if the Chinese government fails to meet the demands of the United States and makes dramatic changes in foreign trade, technology transfer and industry subsidies, the United States will impose taxes on all the rest of China's exports to the United States.
