Australia's government will seek to invest in the battery industry to gain more value from its rich mineral resources, a report said Tuesday.
Australia has abundant raw material deposits, such as lithium for rechargeable batteries used in mobile phones and electric vehicles. The government's strategy report says that the country exports these commodities mainly, rather than developing the domestic battery industry.
In order to gain more value from the mine, Australia plans to attract investment and build a battery supply chain, including chemical technology and battery manufacturing. The report says the government is prepared to provide financial incentives.
