With only more than 100 days to go before Britain leaves Europe, some lawmakers accused Teresa May of trying to delay her voting until she was close to withdrawing from Europe and Japan, thus forcing divided parliaments to support her agreement.
With March 29 approaching, voting in mid-January may force lawmakers to choose between supporting her agreement or not, and the latter scenario is a nightmare for many businesses.
The leader of the British opposition Labour Party tried to put more pressure on Teresa May by launching a no-confidence vote on the grounds of delaying parliamentary vote on the withdrawal plan.
"In any case, this is unacceptable," Labour Party leader Colbin said in the House of Commons.
Although the vote of no confidence in Teresa May was largely symbolic and non-binding, it could increase the sense of crisis as parliamentarians stepped up their efforts to get her to change course.
The Daily Telegraph's deputy political editor said on Twitter that a vote of no confidence could take place as early as Tuesday.
But some Conservative MPs said they would not support Labour's vote. They wanted to sever ties with Brussels more thoroughly and challenged Teresa May's leadership last week. Likewise, Northern Ireland's party, which supports Teresa May's formation of a government but opposes her plan to leave Europe, will not support Labour, said its deputy leader.
Despite growing opposition to the agreement to maintain close ties with the European Union, Teresa May is pushing ahead with her withdrawal agreement, refusing to hold a second referendum and allowing parliament to vote to test support for different options.
