In an interview with Bloomberg on Tuesday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Nuchin said the United States and China plan to hold a meeting in January next year to discuss "reaching a trade agreement".
The report quoted Nuchin as saying that the two sides had several telephone conversations in recent weeks and planned to hold further formal talks.
U.S. President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping reached a trade truce on December 1, and the United States postponed tariff increases to March 2. So far, Trump officials have not disclosed plans for face-to-face meetings.
"We are confirming the logistical arrangements for several meetings, and we are determined to ensure that time is used properly and that efforts are made to solve this problem," Nuchin told Bloomberg. At present, both sides are focusing on "reaching agreement" by the deadline.
"We expect to meet in January next year," Nuchin said.
