Philippine officials said Wednesday that the death toll from the tropical depression has risen to 85, 20 people are still missing and rescuers are slowly reaching isolated communities. The tropical depression caused landslides and floods.
Ricardo Jalad, an official with the Philippine National Disaster Relief Agency, said most of the victims were killed in the collapse of houses caused by landslides, including some children. Several provinces in the central Philippines had been experiencing heavy rains for several days.
Tropical depression brought heavy rain to Bikol Island and Eastern Visayas, triggering landslides and floods. Tropical depression has weakened into a low-pressure system and left the Philippines on Sunday.
