Brian Hook, the U.S. Special Representative for Iran, said on Saturday that the United States did not intend to further exempt Iranian oil sales after the sanctions were re-imposed, highlighting Washington's determination to cut off Tehran's revenue stream.
"We do not intend to grant any exemption for the import of Iranian oil," Hooker said at an industry conference in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
After the resumption of energy sanctions against Iran in November, Washington granted exemptions to eight major Iranian oil buyers, including China, India, Japan and South Korea.
Hooker refused to reveal what the U.S. government would do when these exemptions expired in May.
