The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Thursday quoted sources familiar with the negotiations as saying that U.S. and Chinese trade officials were discussing China's reopening of the U.S. chicken market.
The report points out that the USDA recently told the US meat industry that chicken products are being discussed as part of broader negotiations to resolve tensions in US-China trade relations.
Earlier Thursday, WSJ reported that U.S. Treasury Secretary Nouchin had discussed the partial or total elimination of tariffs imposed on Chinese imports to the United States during the trade negotiations scheduled for January 30, and suggested that tariffs be reduced to their previous levels.
For many months, the United States and China have been involved in fierce trade disputes over tariffs, industrial subsidies, intellectual property rights and network security.
