The European Union will impose tariffs on Chinese electric bicycles starting on Saturday to limit cheap imports. European manufacturers say Chinese electric bicycles benefit from unfair subsidies and are dumped in the European market.
A document in the official EU log said on Friday that imports of electric bicycles from China would be subject to tariffs ranging from 18.8% to 79.3%, in line with the proposal of the European Commission voted by EU Member States last December.
This anti-dumping and countervailing tariff is the latest in a series of EU measures targeting Chinese exports from solar panels to steel, which have aroused strong protests from the Chinese government.
The European Commission found that China's export of electric bicycles to the European Union more than tripled from 2014 to September 2017, with its market share rising to 35%, while the average price fell by 11%.
