Japanese Economic News reported Sunday that the French government delegation had informed the Japanese government that it would seek to integrate Renault Motor (RENA. PA) and Nissan Motor (7201. T) into a single holding company.
According to the report, the delegation requested the appointment of Nissan's next chairman. The delegation included Martin Vial, director of Renault appointed by the French government. Nissan was not immediately available for comment.
Former Nissan Chairman Ghosn was arrested and detained in Japan on November 19 last year. He was accused of withholding income for eight years up to March 2018, temporarily transferring personal investment losses during the global financial crisis to Nissan. Ghosn refused to admit all charges.
The French government has asked Renault to convene a board of directors in the next few days to determine Gone's successor. In an interview with a newspaper published Sunday, Bruno Le Maire, France's finance minister, said Jean-Dominique Senard, CEO of MICP.PA, might be the right person to lead Renault.
"The French government, as a shareholder, will have a say. All I can say is that Jean-Dominique Senard has a reputation for his ability in the automotive industry, "Lemmel told the French newspaper Journal Du Dimanche.
