China's Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday that reports of the cancellation of the U.S. negotiations with China were untrue and that the two sides had maintained communication and contacts. Vice Premier Liu He of the State Council will visit the United States from January 30 to 31 for high-level consultations. At present, the two sides have stepped up close communication on relevant issues.
Speaking at a regular briefing, Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng said that in the upcoming high-level consultations between China and the United States, the two sides will continue to conduct in-depth communication on various economic and trade issues of mutual concern.
He pointed out that the market will be further opened in 2019, so that all countries in the region can share opportunities to promote an open world economy, further promote trade facilitation, jointly promote the relevant countries, promote new development of new industries, build more platforms for trade cooperation, and deepen economic and trade cooperation.
Regarding the EC's dual countermeasures against China's electric bicycles, Gao Feng said, "We are highly concerned that China's electric bicycles are a fully market-oriented and competitive industry. The European ruling neither truly reflects the market situation of China's electric bicycles nor clearly violates the relevant WTO rules."
