British Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Monday that the cyber attack on Australian legislators may have been carried out by a foreign government, but did not point out any suspects.
As Australia will complete its elections by May, lawmakers told this month that they urgently changed their passwords after cyber intelligence agencies discovered an attack on the computer network of the National Parliament.
Morrison said the hacker violated the network of the major political parties because he released preliminary assessments by investigators.
"Our network experts believe that a mature national actor is responsible for this malicious activity," he told Parliament.
