Seven Labour MPs resigned Monday after complaining about the Labour leader's stance on Britain's withdrawal from Europe and the dispute over anti-Semitism, saying the party had been "kidnapped by the far-left political machine".
The seven centrist MPs challenged Colbin directly, saying they were trying to persuade other MPs to join their camp, saying that they had "enough" to remain silent about the suitability of the Labour leader.
They were united in their desire to hold a second British referendum on withdrawal from Europe, but they also acknowledged that their withdrawal would not change the outcome of the parliamentary vote, and that no majority of MPs supported the second referendum.
But their actions show that Labour is increasingly frustrated by Colbin's unwillingness to change its retreat strategy.
With only 39 days to go before Britain formally withdraws from Europe, the divisions on withdrawal have polarized British politics.
"Today's Labour Party is no longer the one we joined, fought for and trusted... It has been hijacked by hard left-wing machine politics," Senator Chris Leslie said at a press conference.
Colbin expressed disappointment at the resignation of these MPs. But Tom Watson, the deputy leader of the Labour Party, said that the resignation of these MPs sounded a "alarm bell" and said that "unless we make changes, there may be more of this happening", implying that Colbin and his team had made Labour's line too leftist.
