A fugitive Malaysian policeman has been convicted of the terrible murder of a Mongolian model. He lost his right to buy asylum in Australia. He has been detained in Australia since 2015, which increases the possibility of his deportation.
Sirul Azhar Umar and another police officer, Azilah Hadri, were sentenced to death for the conviction of Altantuya Shaariibuu, 28, a former assistant translator of former Prime Minister Najibrazak in Malaysia.
It is reported that Shaariibuu was destroyed by military-grade explosives in a forest on the outskirts of Malaysia's capital in 2006. The case was shrouded in mystery 13 years later.
Shortly before the verdict was declared unsuccessful, Sirul was arrested and detained in the Australian Immigration Detention Centre in January 2015 after fleeing Malaysia.
On Monday, the Sydney Administrative Appeals Court upheld his ruling that he had committed "non-political" crimes in Malaysia, so he was not entitled to protection in Australia. He lost his asylum application on Monday.
