Ning Jizhao, director of China's National Bureau of Statistics, said Tuesday that China's economic operation in January and February started well on the whole, with better production and consumption, and continued to show the characteristics of faster service consumption than commodity consumption, faster rural consumption than urban consumption, and overall stable prices.
"China's economy is running smoothly on the whole and the trend is good." Ningji Zhe said in an interview at the "ministerial corridor" of the CPPCC and CPPCC.
The National Bureau of Statistics will release China's investment, industry and consumption data from January to February on Thursday. Last week, the Bureau of Statistics announced that the consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.5% year-on-year in February, in line with the median forecast of the Reuters poll, slowing for the fourth consecutive month and reaching its lowest level since January 2018, when it was 1.5%, compared with a 1.7% increase last month.
The second session of the 13th National People's Congress of China opened on March 5. The government's work report made it clear that China's expected economic growth target in 2019 was 6.0-6.5%. The target of consumer price increase was about 3%. The deficit rate was 2.8%. This year, effective investment will be rationally expanded to achieve 800 billion yuan in railway investment and 18 trillion yuan in highway and waterway investment.
