Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao on March 18 quoted the Seattle Times as saying on March 17 that the current and former engineers of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said there were many problems in the safety assessment submitted by Boeing:
Safety reports do not adequately identify the full power of the new flight control system. In order to prevent the aircraft from stalling in the air, the flight control system can rotate the horizontal wing of the aircraft and make the nose down. But after service, the control system rotates the horizontal wing at more than three times the speed indicated by the safety assessment.
After the driver responded, the report failed to fully consider whether the system could be restored in time or whether the system might continue to push the nose down.
The system's hazard assessment is set at the "hazardous" level, which is lower than the "catastrophic" level. Even at the "harmful" level, a single sensor signal cannot be used to prevent the flight control system from starting, and this system is designed in this way.
According to the report, the angle of rotation of the plane's horizontal wing is less than 0.6 degrees, but after the crash of Lion Airlines Flight 610 in 2018, Boeing first provided airlines with a "Maneuverability Increase System" description that marked the angle as 2.5 degrees.
American media reported that this surprised the engineers of the Federal Aviation Administration. Surveys after the crash of Lion Airlines showed that the only sensor on the Boeing 737 MAX was out of order, causing the flight control system to be activated several times before the crash, the nose of the plane constantly flipped downwards, and the pilot desperately pulled the plane up.
