U.S. President Trump told the New York Times on Tuesday that the Federal Reserve should immediately cut interest rates by 0.5 percentage points.
He told the New York Times that he was not a "Trump flatterer" or a "dove" of monetary policy. Moore is a conservative economic commentator who worked for the Heritage Foundation.
Moore told Bloomberg on Friday that he was not sure where interest rates should go, but he had strongly criticized the Fed's decision to raise interest rates in 2018.
The Federal Reserve raised interest rates four times in 2018.
Current Fed policymakers do not think the time has come to cut interest rates, let alone 0.5 percentage points. That's twice the rate hike the Federal Reserve has seen recently.
Mary Daly, president of the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank, responded to questions Tuesday by saying she did not support interest rate cuts. She said interest rates were currently neutral and she needed to look at more data before deciding whether to raise or lower them.
