According to the forecast made by China Electric Power Enterprise Federation (CAPEC) on Tuesday, China's nuclear power installed capacity in 2020 will not meet the set target.
Wei Zhaofeng, full-time vice president of China Telecom Union, said at the China Nuclear Energy Sustainable Development Forum held in Beijing that China's nuclear power capacity is expected to reach 53 gigawatts (GW) next year, below the target of 58 gigawatts.
According to installed capacity, China is the third largest nuclear power producer in the world, with installed capacity of 45.9 gigawatts and 11 units under construction by the end of 2018. But since the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan in 2011, China's nuclear power construction plan has stagnated.
