China has blocked Richardson International and Viterra's rapeseed from entering the customs, claiming that pests were detected in the rapeseed shipments of the two companies. Both companies are among the largest exporters of agricultural products in Canada. Other rapeseed shipments to be shipped to China have been cancelled, forcing exporters to resell the goods at low prices.
Canadian politicians have said that China’s fears are groundless and mentioned that after Canada’s request to arrest China’s Huawei executive Meng Xingzhou in December last year, China detained two Canadians.
