Moore was criticized for his comments on women and his non-mainstream economic views. He said on Sunday that someone was launching a smear campaign against him. Democrats are also worried that he has too much political color and will damage the independence of the Fed.
Even some Republican senators have a cold attitude towards his nomination.
Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, told reporters on Monday that Moore had "quite good economics common sense."
"But can that make him eligible to become a Fed governor?" he asked, adding that he would hold his opinion.
Moore wrote in 2014 that if a woman earns more than a man, it may undermine family stability; in 2000, he also believed that “women’s professional players do not really want equal pay for equal work. They want to get equal pay with second-rate skills. He also said that the Midwestern city of the United States is "the armpit of the United States."
Moore has been criticized for his support for linking policy decisions to commodity prices and the volatility of interest rates.
White House spokesman Sanders told reporters on Monday that the White House is reviewing Moore’s previous remarks.
Trump has not officially nominated Moore as a member of the Fed. If you are nominated, you need to be confirmed by the Senate.
