MSCI. N, the world's largest index provider, said on Monday it would increase the weight of China's A shares in its emerging market index. Twenty-six Chinese A-shares will be included in the MSCI Mingsheng China Index, of which 18 are GEM stocks; the inclusion factor of 238 existing component stocks will be increased from 5% to 10%. The adjustment will take effect after the closing date of May 28.
The total weights of A shares in MSCI Mingsheng China and MSCI Mingsheng Emerging Market Index will be increased to 5.25% and 1.76%, respectively.
MSCI said that the weight of A shares in MSCI Mingsheng Emerging Market Index will be increased in three steps. As part of the quarterly index review in August 2019, the A-share inclusion factor will be increased to 15%, and then to 20% as part of the semi-annual index review in November 2019, as well as the mid-market A-share.
