U.S. President Trump said Thursday that he was ready to raise with Chinese President Xi Jinping the detention of two Canadians in China.
Trump made the remarks before the White House meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau. Trudeau later said that they had spent considerable time discussing China and said he hoped Trump and Xi would discuss it during next week's G-20 summit.
Last December, Canadian police arrested a Huawei executive in Vancouver at the request of the United States, triggering a crisis. Trudeau hoped Washington would do more to help resolve the crisis.
Trump will meet with Xi Jinping to discuss the trade war between the two countries. He hinted that Huawei might become part of the final trade agreement. China accused the two Canadians of espionage and banned imports of rapeseed and pork from Canada.
