Senior officials from Iran, France, Germany, Britain, China and Russia will meet in Vienna on June 28 to discuss how to save the Iranian nuclear agreement signed in 2015, the European Union said on Thursday.
The EU also said that the meeting would explore how to "meet the challenges posed by the withdrawal of the US agreement and the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran". US President Trump decided last year to withdraw from Iran's nuclear agreement.
The EU statement states that senior officials of the six countries will also consider "recent announcements by Iran on fulfilling its nuclear commitments". This refers to Iran's threat that its uranium enrichment reserves will exceed the limit by the end of this month.
Iran has warned that time is running out for the EU to rescue the nuclear agreement by providing adequate economic incentives and bypassing U.S. sanctions. The United States cut off most of Iran's Oil Trade and put its economy in trouble.
"It's important for us to keep Iran fully in compliance with its commitments," EU Executive Committee Vice Chairman Mogelini said Thursday, who helped to reach the Iranian nuclear agreement.
She also pledged to ease tensions with Iran and the United States, "to ensure that the situation does not escalate."
