A survey shows that during the escalating trade war between China and the United States, more than half of Chinese consumers avoid buying any products made in the United States to support their country, which poses a "significant" risk to American enterprises.
Brunswick, a London-based consultancy, surveyed 1,000 Chinese consumers. According to the survey, 56% of respondents said they had shunned American products and 68% said their views on American companies had become more negative.
"This poses a significant risk to the profits of American companies," Brunswick said Wednesday.
Two of the world's largest economies are caught up in a fierce trade war, in which they impose tit-for-tat tariffs on each other's exports, hurting business interests and fearing that they might become victims.
U.S. President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet for the first time in seven months at the G20 summit in Japan this weekend, but prospects for progress in trade negotiations seem slim.
Brunswick also surveyed 1,000 American consumers'perceptions of China. According to the report, Americans'perception of Chinese businesses is deteriorating, with 60% of respondents noticing the rise in household goods prices since tariff increases.
