An official from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Resources of South Korea said Monday that Japan's tightening of exports of high-tech materials to South Korea violated World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and that South Korea would respond resolutely.
"Japan's export control measures are prohibited in principle in accordance with WTO agreements," Park Tae-sung, an official of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Resources of Korea, told reporters.
"The Japanese government's measures are regrettable," he said.
