Tehran's announcement marks the first major step beyond the terms of the Iranian nuclear agreement since the United States withdrew from it more than a year ago. But while European countries are trying to avoid a conflict between the United States and Iran, Iran's move could have serious consequences for diplomatic activities. Less than two weeks ago, Trump said he ordered an air strike on Iran, but withdrew it minutes before the strike was launched.
Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reports that Iran's uranium enrichment reserves have now exceeded the 300 kg ceiling set by the Iranian nuclear agreement.
The United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed in Vienna that Iran's uranium enrichment reserves have exceeded the limit. The agency oversees Iran's nuclear program in accordance with the nuclear agreement.
Asked if he had any information for Iran, Trump said, "There is no message for Iran. They know what they are doing. They know what they are playing, and I think they are playing with fire. So there's no news for Iran."
The White House earlier said it would continue to exert "extreme pressure" on Iran "until its leaders change course". It also said that Iran should maintain a ban on all uranium enrichment activities.
