On Tuesday evening, Liu He, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council and Chinese leader of the China-US Comprehensive Economic Dialogue, spoke with U.S. Trade Representative Lethizer and Finance Minister Mnuchin to exchange views on the implementation of the consensus between the two heads of state in Osaka, China's Ministry of Commerce said Wednesday.
Kudrow, director of the White House National Economic Committee, also said earlier that the U.S. -China trade negotiators had a constructive conversation on Tuesday. Kudrow told reporters at the White House that the two sides were discussing holding a face-to-face meeting.
When President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Japan at the end of June, they agreed to resume the stalled economic and trade negotiations in May. Subsequently, officials from both sides had already communicated by telephone.
An official from the Trump administration said Wednesday that senior representatives of the United States and China are planning to resume negotiations this week in an attempt to resolve a year-long trade war between the world's two largest economies.
The United States led the negotiations by trade representative Lethizer and finance minister Nuchin, while the Chinese chief negotiator was Vice Premier Liu He.
