NEWS： British Prime Minister's Decision on whether to involve Huawei in 5G

An influential parliamentary committee said on Friday that the new British prime minister must make a decision as soon as possible on whether to involve Huawei in Britain's 5G telecommunications network, as the ongoing debate has undermined international relations.
The National Security Council, chaired by the outgoing Prime Minister, Theresa May, met in April to discuss Huawei. At that time, it decided to reject Huawei's participation in all the important parts of the 5G network, but limited its participation in the less sensitive parts.
But the United States has asked allies not to use Huawei technology because it fears it could be used by Beijing authorities for espionage missions. China warned Britain that excluding Huawei could hurt investment and trade.
The British government should have made a final decision on Huawei, but Teresa May's decision to resign brought the process to a standstill. The prime minister's succession battle is being finalized by British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt and former London Mayor Johnson, who is currently the favorite candidate to win next week.
"The new prime minister must make this decision a top priority," said Dominic Grieve, chairman of the Parliamentary Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC).
ISC said in its statement that UK cyber security directors have always been aware that the issue is not about a country or company, but the whole system needs to be able to withstand any attack, malicious acts or simple human error.
ISC says the best way to achieve this goal is to diversify suppliers. The problem facing 5G is that only three companies are capable of participating - Huawei, Nokia and Ericsson. According to ISC, excessive reliance and inadequate competition will lead to lower security standards.
