Spain's parliament on Thursday again rejected Socialist leader Pedro Sanchez's request to confirm his prime minister's position, and Spain may hold its fourth national election in four years if he fails to break through next time.
Sanchez's inability to finalize the ruling coalition agreement has been the cause of his failure to hold a precarious prime minister's office. This shows that Spain is currently in a tense political situation and has many factions. Even re-election may not help.
Sanchez, 47, was elected prime minister last year after setbacks, but he failed to pass the first confirmation vote in parliament on Tuesday.
In theory, Sanchez could continue to win parliamentary support until mid-September, but he has failed by a wide margin in two confirmation votes so far, and there is little hope of accomplishing this task.
