Police Chief Scot Smithee told a news conference Sunday evening that four people were killed in the Garlic Day shooting in California, one of whom was suspected to be a gunman.
Fifteen others were injured, some of whom were shot, but it is not clear how many were shot.
"It's very sad and frustrating that such a good activity has become a tragedy," said Smithee, the police chief of Gilroy, near San Jose.
Gunners seem to have crossed the fence into the garlic Festival venue. Smithee adds that he may have an accomplice.
