Lingke Space, a Chinese startup, completed its third rocket recovery test in five months on Saturday, marking the acceleration of China's race to develop key technologies for low-cost space launches, with the world expected to usher in a boom in satellite launches.
Hu Zhenyu, 26, the company's chief executive, told Reuters that the Lingke RLV-T5 rocket launched at 10:30 local time in the desert of Western Qinghai Province and returned to the launch pad after 50 seconds, with a maximum flight altitude of 300 meters.
The Beijing-based company plans to launch a new generation of RLV-T16 rocket next year, which Hu Zhenyu says can fly up to 150 kilometers.
The company previously launched two RLV-T5 rockets in March and April at altitudes of 20 meters and 40 meters, respectively.
