A spokesman for the German government said Wednesday that despite the contraction in the second quarter, the government led by Chancellor Angela Merkel still believes that the German economy will grow slightly this year, and that the government does not consider it necessary to introduce further stimulus measures.
"As the Prime Minister has already pointed out, the government does not see any need for further measures to stabilize the economy - the German government's fiscal policy is already expansionary," a German government spokesman said.
German Economy Minister Artemir said earlier Wednesday that Germany is not yet in recession and that if the right measures are taken, the recession can be avoided.
