Foreign media said that U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin said the Trump Administration hoped to make "significant progress" in the next trade negotiations with China.
According to Agence France-Presse on September 13, in an interview with Consumer News and Business Channel on September 12, Mnuchin said he was "cautiously optimistic" about the possibility of reaching a dispute settlement agreement.
"We don't want to go to [the negotiation venue] just for some discussion," Mnuchin said. We hope to make some important progress. He also said Trump was prepared to decide to abolish or raise tariffs on Chinese imports to the United States based on the progress of the negotiations.
Reported that Beijing announced earlier that it was studying the possibility of purchasing more American agricultural products, which Trump valued very much, was seriously affected by China's counter-measures. A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Gao Feng, said on September 12: "Chinese enterprises have begun to make inquiries on the purchase of American agricultural products."
