On Monday, China's National Bureau of Statistics announced that the value-added of industries above the scale in August increased by 4.4% year-on-year, far less than the median estimated value of 5.2% in the Reuters poll, refreshing the lowest level since February 2002, which was 2.7% at that time, and 4.8% last month. From January to August, the cumulative industrial growth was 5.6% year-on-year.
Total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 7.5% in August compared with the same period last year, which was also lower than the 7.9% median estimated in Reuters'survey, and increased by 8.2% in January-August compared with the same period last year. However, retail sales of consumer goods excluding automobiles rose by 9.3% in August, 0.5 percentage points faster than last month.
Fixed asset investment increased by 5.5% from January to August, slightly lower than the 5.6% median estimated by Reuters. Among them, infrastructure investment increased by 4.2% year on year, 0.4 percentage points faster than January-July, and private fixed assets investment increased by 4.9% year on year, down by 0.5 percentage points from January-July.
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate in the national urban survey fell to 5.2% in August and 5.2% in 31 major cities and towns, respectively, last month, 5.3% and 5.2%. Among them, the unemployment rate in the August 25-59 population survey was 4.5%, down 0.1 percentage points from last month.
From January to August, 9.84 million new jobs were created in cities and towns throughout the country, and 89.5% of the annual plan was completed.
