Reference News Network reported on September 23 that the US media said the Trump government had approved the exemption from tariffs on 10 items imported from China by Apple, including power supplies and logic boards. They are included in $200 billion of Chinese goods that began imposing tariffs in September 2018.
According to the Wall Street Journal website on September 20, the Office of the United States Trade Representative approved Apple's application for tariff exemption for Miao Mouse 2, Miao Control Board 2 and various internal components on September 20. The exemption period is from September 2018 to August 2020. The United States will refund the taxes already levied. The exemption does not apply to other products of Apple, such as Apple Watch, the iPhone or AirPods, which will be subject to tariffs later this year, but the technology giant may seek more exemptions in the future.
Reported that the total amount of the exemption is still uncertain. These parts imported from China would have been subject to a tariff equivalent to 25% of their value, which is set to be raised to 30% from October 15.
According to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, Apple's other five applications for tariff exemptions are still under review, including power data lines and circuit boards.
