In 2002, an old friend of the Chinese people, Kissinger, visited the Great Hall of the People. Leaving the airport, Ingwa went straight to IKEA store near the Madian Bridge on the third ring of the north, and spent four hours observing every detail in the mall. In this year, IKEA's sales in China exceeded 500 million yuan, an increase of 43% over the previous year. It is said that before entering China, IKEA hesitated in the Chinese and Japanese markets, but the final result of the discussion was, "The Japanese have a lot of good things. Our future is in China."
Ingwa first came to China in 1981, and this frugal Swedish richest man was the founder of the first overseas brands to land in China. As early as the mid-1960s, IKEA began to purchase cheap raw materials in China. At that time, only a few people realized that China, which was about to open up, would become one of the biggest business opportunities in history.
In 1998, IKEA's first shopping mall in mainland China settled in Shanghai. In the following 20 years, the family structure, housing type and life concept of the younger generation in Chinese cities changed most rapidly. If bicycles, watches and radios represented the period of food and clothing in China, refrigerators, color TV sets and washing machines brought people into a well-off society. Society, then IKEA's model, is the rapid development of China in the new century.
