ESG is a kind of value about how to develop
Based on the traditional financial indicators, ESG integrates the three elements of environment, society and corporate governance into the investment decision-making process. It will be placed in the interconnected and interdependent social network, mapping the individual activities of the company to the whole social network, internalizing the individual development to the external social environment, and introducing the public interest into the corporate value system. Values and behaviors in the process of individual development, as well as the common promotion of individual and social values, are the process of promoting the mutual complementarity of individual economic activities and environmental and social construction, and the process of dynamic and balanced sustainable development, reflecting the values of pursuing long-term value growth, the common promotion of individual and society, and the sustainable development of society.
ESG investment is closely related to the development of the times. Early ESG investment came from investors' ethical and cultural beliefs. Some investors included gambling, arms, tobacco and alcohol in the negative list of investment. In 60s and 70s twentieth Century, the awakening of civil rights consciousness, the rise of policies against racial discrimination and gender discrimination and the protection of human rights began to advocate the labor rights, racial and gender equality responsibilities in investment, and 1980s. Since then, the rapid increase of population and accelerated industrialization have brought about serious environmental deterioration, climate warming and resource shortage. Global sustainable development has become a common issue of concern. ESG investment began to respond to more environmental and social focus issues, and developed many investment strategies and methods, which have increasingly significant impact on asset management industry, until leading the global asset management industry value orientation.
