In an interview published on Wednesday, Vice President De Kindos of the European Central Bank (ECB) said the ECB could cut interest rates further, but the side effects of monetary policy were beginning to become more apparent.
Market News's interview with Degindos was published on the ECB website. Asked if he would rule out adjusting the central bank's monetary policy at the October meeting, he said: "We need to look at the prospects first. And we have to look at downside risk changes.
Asked if the graded interest rate could mitigate the adverse effects and possibly lead to further interest rate cuts, he said: "We haven't discussed it, but my feeling is that negative 0.50% is the right level at present. As for whether further interest rate cuts can be achieved, we will have a thorough discussion in the management committee."
