German industrial orders rose more than expected in September, thanks to strong domestic demand, data released on Wednesday showed. This provides some breathing space for German manufacturers in the tough third quarter.
The global economic slowdown, as well as the uncertainty surrounding trade disputes between China and the United States and Britain's retreat, has affected German manufacturers that rely on exports.
Germany's industrial orders rose 1.3% in September from the previous month, the Federal Bureau of Statistics said, adding to both domestic and overseas demand. A Reuters survey estimated German industrial orders rose 0.1% in September.
The German Ministry of economy said the data was a good start for the fourth quarter and showed that companies expected better. "This shows that orders have bottomed out and rebounded."
